Experienced, discreet thinking partner & sounding board for leaders
Before turning to leadership coaching and mentoring, for thirty years Nigel led award-winning teams and advised executive leadership teams and Boards on building and protecting reputations.
Nigel was Chief Communications Officer at leading FTSE100 companies NatWest (c.19 million customers) and Aviva (c.30 million customers) and, as a senior communications adviser, he served as Deputy Chair at Headland Consultancy and as a Partner at Brunswick Group.
He led and advised on group-wide external and internal communications across multiple international markets through culture change, strategy launches, brand campaigns, leadership transitions, significant M&A, and numerous issues and crises. At the same time, he led significant team restructurings and reorganisations.
Through this experience, he understands first-hand the realities of senior leadership – its pressures, responsibilities and consequences.
Nigel's counsel is grounded in a clear principle: enduring reputations are built through actions and behaviours, not words alone.
Great communication informs and inspires, but it is actions and outcomes that ultimately shape reputation. Those actions and outcomes are shaped by the quality of thinking, decision-making and strength of leadership.
It's not just what you achieve, but how you achieve it that matters. Those who have worked with Nigel know that kindness is a core value, both as a leader and in his teams.
Nigel holds the Professional Certificate in Executive Coaching from Henley Business School. The programme is triple accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) and the Association for Coaching (AC).
And in 2015, he was voted Communications Professional of the Year in the CorpComms Magazine Awards.
Nigel is married to Clare and they have three children. He enjoys wildlife photography (flickr), sport and family life and walked the Camino de Santiago with Clare in 2026. He is a Liveryman of the Goldsmiths' Company (where he is on the Marketing & Communications Committee), a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and a graduate of Cambridge University.
